The level of devotion/faith the woman demonstrates is huge! Talk about the ultimate "tithe" - pretty sure that perfume was worth a lot more than 10%. Are we willing to give up our most precious things just to wash the feet of the Lord?
Agreed. And brave... to show her face there where she wasn't welcome and to do something outrageous. Its a true testament of devotion. I think sometimes there are things that we feel convicted about enough that we don't care if we come off as a little crazy. But it isn't that often... its those things that are so close to our soul that keep us up at night. Jesus surely had a profound effect on people. His presence must have been pretty powerful.
Another thing that is pretty powerful about this story is that again, Jesus turns society on its head to the point that the pharisees just couldn't take it. He needed to be silenced. None of this associating with women and sinners and children.
The women was risking a lot. Not just the prized possession of her perfume, but she was risking her life. It said she was a big sinner and it was easy to see.. does that imply that they had been punished for her sins (such as missing fingers and such)?
These kings are not taking the liking to people like other people over them. This story makes me think of Daniel's situation. He was loved by others and he was devoted to God, but other people were becoming of jealous of him, so they had to think of a way to punish him. And they turn on him.
