Getting Started...

Hey sis :)

So I was thinking that this might be a good way for us to keep in touch on our goals - I know we're both really busy and our schedules probably won't always line up; so this would give us a way to keep in touch on our own time :)

I think working together through the Bible will definitely help - I'm also thinking that I might re-read Strobel's Case for Faith and bounce ideas about that off of you.

Let me know your thoughts when you're up to it!

  1. I was up late last night and got to thinking. Came up with lots of approaches....depends on where your troubles really are.

    1. we could go question by question. if you had specific ones about anything related to faith, the church, God, etc

    2. I found the coolest childrens bible that actually does a good job at tying the whole bible together into a coherent story that makes sense

    3. The Shack is a great fiction book that deals with why bad things happen and how God can exist as a trinity

    4. Of course the Gospel John - which presents Jesus as connected to and part of God and also the elements of ourselves that come into question as we become open to faith. John, unlike the other gospels, is not a historical account of Jesus but more a two part discourse on becoming a believer then living a life as a disciple. very deep

    5. Bible survey. Review the books of the bible, their significance, why they are there. onces that aren't, why not, etc.

    6. Historical development of the traditions of the church, splits and symbology.

Those were some ideas I had off the top of my head. Any speak to you?

  2. So I've been giving this some thought and I think I kind of have an idea for a starting point. I think that since we have plenty of time to hash this all out it would make sense to start with big picture stuff and then narrow down as we go. I feel like at this point I'm so disconnected that I need to go back to square 1 almost. I still just have some really nagging questions about Christianity, and even organized religion in general, as a whole.

I started Lee Strobel's Case for Faith again yesterday and I think that's going to help with some of it; but I'm sure it will also bring up plenty of thoughts and questions. So here's what I think my game plan is:

    1) Start with questions --> reaffirm my acceptance

    2) Bible survey --> understand the Bible as both a historical document and a story and how it all works together

    3) Study the Book of John --> embrace faith and reconnect with spirituality

I think each of those steps should feed nicely into each other...seems to be a logical succession. Thoughts?
