Life update
I really want to post tonight. But Eddie is sick and throwing up and I am exhausted after a weekend of late nights and early mornings. I will catch up tomorrow.
10 ways to be perfect
I thought it was kind of strange that the title of this chapter specifically mentions the fact that there are 10 ways to be perfect...and then the chapter itself doesn't even cover all 10 commandments! I figured this was a good opportunity to review:
#10 is probably the hardest one for me...it's hard to not want what others have that you don't. And unfortunately I have to admit to having trouble with #3 from time to time...popular vernacular does creep into my vocabulary every once in a while.
Are the beatitudes of the New Testament supposed to be an addition to the 10 Commandments?
- "You shall have no other gods before Me"
- “You shall not make for yourself an image in the form of anything in heaven above or on the earth beneath or in the waters below. You shall not bow down to them or worship them"
- “You shall not misuse the name of the LORD your God"
- “Remember the Sabbath day by keeping it holy. Six days you shall labor and do all your work, but the seventh day is a sabbath to the LORD your God. On it you shall not do any work"
- “Honor your father and your mother"
- “You shall not murder."
- “You shall not commit adultery."
- “You shall not steal."
- “You shall not give false testimony against your neighbor."
- “You shall not covet"

God makes a way
Amazing story of believing in God for the impossible. Sometimes when everything seems hopeless the only thing we have left to do is to trust in him. If God can part the Red Sea, he can lead Adam and I on the right path this fall. I'm hoping that that path includes a job at a good district...but maybe he has something else in mind - and I'm going to do my best to trust in him.
I wonder if there's any archaeological evidence of this story?

God to the rescue!
Well that was certainly the most simplistic version of the story I've ever read/heard! The Ten Commandments (Charlton Heston style of course) was one of my favorite movies growing up - to this day one of the biggest reasons I look forward to Easter is that it gets played on tv practically non-stop :-D
I suppose when you're trying to keep it short and sweet, they managed to hit all of the most basic details of the story. It certainly is interesting to see how the book is tying Jesus to all of these OT stories - but the OT gets even crazier from here, so I'm excited to see what comes.
I'm pretty tired at the moment, so I'll probably look this back over tomorrow with fresh eyes - not much stuck out to me in this story other than how incredibly basic it was.

Lent Day 9: Unpredictable
Life is so full of unknowns. It boggles my mind to try to think about what might be coming. Each day that comes brings with it news that seems to shift life's path to yet another direction. Just as I think I have a pulse on where it's going, the winds shift.
The weather in this season is like that -- warm and gentle, with breaths of summer, then violent turning to rain or cold and the sky a foreboding gray.
Faith can seem like that too. God walking comfortably along side us and leaving us secure in our knowledge of him. Then, a shift in the weather and it's as if he had never been there at all and we wonder if faith was just an illusion.
Pray without stop. Through clear and foggy days of life. Through prayer our eyes can unfold a deeper truth that can help us to understand the patterns of change in life. Or, it can give us the sufficient grace to ride through times when God feels far away assured that he is still present and active in our lives even when we don't feel lit.

The forgiving prince
I think this is another great story of love. Love and forgiveness. What more could someone do to you than want to kill you and end up selling you as a slave! This makes me think about things people have done to me are nothing. If Joesph can forgive his brothers, how can we not forgive others?
In the story... why did it seem like Joesph called out to them right away? I know the message is about forgiveness, but his forgiveness was not really instantaneous... sometime forgiveness takes a little while.
