First of all, the drawing of Thomas hiding under the table is hilarious. :-)
Again - what is the deal with how Jesus returned? Goes through walls, eats food, people don't recognize him...definitely weird. Not sure exactly what the Story was trying to get at by emphasizing that Jesus had returned in a new body...is there some other message in there that I'm not picking up on?
Is there significance to the fact that Jesus is going to return to Earth by descending from heaven (rather than any other form of entry...baby again, etc?)
I wonder why the angels are referred to as "shining men"
We're getting very close to the end of the book...I'm a little disappointed that it spent so much time on the Gospels. I mean, I guess I should've seen it coming; but there's so much more to the New Testament than just the Gospels and I was looking forward to seeing how connections were going to be made to the story of Jesus like we saw with the Old Testament in the beginning of the book.
It definitely does seem like a ghost. Why was he hanging out with them so much? I agree why did it emphasize he returned in a new body. Did they just mean he can no longer be harmed?
ReplyDeleteAngels have always been seen as having a halo and glowing light surrounding them, i think it is just another way of saying that.
We are getting close to the end of the book. I also feel that we would see more connections like in the beginning of the book. hmm...
This story was a little strange for me because it combined different stories of Jesus into a single one ... Jesus walked through the walls with the disciples locked in the upper room and again when Thomas was there. He came down to the beach and ate fish with peter and some other disciples. I guess the details aren't so important but it was a little weird for me to read.
ReplyDeleteI think this is some of the writer's intrepration coming in with the new body stuff. It's obvious that the resurrected Jesus has a different physical nature with all the weird reporting (not recognizing him, walking through walls, disappearing) I think the writer of this book simplified it all to say that Jesus had a new body that was a new kind of body.
